I am very excited to announce my new film - Pearls!
Pearls tells the story of one of the UK's fastest declining butterflies, the Pearl bordered fritillary.
High up on Warton Crag, overlooking Morecambe Bay, is home to one of the last strongholds of this fragile species. Pearl bordered fritillaries feed on violets, and require open areas that have been recently cleared, with lots of dead plant material to keep temperatures warm for their eggs.
I have been fascinated with the Pearls on Warton Crag for years, and this spring felt like a good opportunity to capture some of their magic on film.
The film was produced in partnership with Lancaster University and Butterfly Conservation, who are leading on some of the cutting edge research seeking to protect the Pearl bordered fritillaries for future generations.
Pearls was recently premiered at the first North West Butterfly Research Symposium at the University of Salford.
